New university building VU Amsterdam runs on a mega-powerful thermal storage system

Durable, multifunctional and flexible. Since spring 2018, the educational institution has a home that meets the wishes and requirements of future users in every respect. The electrical and mechanical installations installed within the building contribute significantly to this and have resulted in the new building has a 4-star BREEAM New Construction Design Certificate.

Within the new building, the construction partners involved have made a strong commitment to multifunctionality and flexibility. But also in terms of sustainability and comfort, everything has been taken care regarding construction and installation technology. One of the gadgets that contribute to a healthy climate and optimal comfort for the users of the building concerns the heat and cold storage system developed and supplied by Dubotechniek (part of Royal VolkerWessels). The company operating from Zaltbommel received this assignment from HOMIJ Technische Installaties, who were responsible for the entire mechanical and electrical installations during the project.

"The installation that we delivered to HOMIJ is a so-called Mega ONE," says Davy van Helmond, project leader ONE at Dubotechniek. "Together with the Mini ONE, the ONE and the Big ONE, it forms our ONE range. ONE stands for Own New Energy and encompasses a program of very sustainable energy installations, each of which has a standardized structure, but can be adjusted at will and at the same time. Both in terms of size, shape and functionality."

Beveco has commissioned Dubotechniek to provide the measurement and control system based on the Niagara 4 platform from Tridium (division of Honeywell). In the control cabinet of the ONE a Tridium server/controller, type JACE8000, has been installed for the control, complete with the necessary schematic visualization (HTML5) and alarm handling.
